Woman Modified Her House Into A 1940s Replica Home
She started furnishing the interior with décor from another era, such as patterned wallpaper, old devices, and vintage furniture. The kitchen comprises black and white tiled flooring, a whistling kettle, exposed wooden beams, and an open larder. Somewhere in the house, there was a working rotary phone and an extraordinary oak closet.
‘Vintage obsessed’ Hannah at first purchased a working 1940s gas cooker on eBay and had little by little given the home a transformation to match the theme, saying that her curiosity in the wartime period was aroused when her grandparents familiarized her to fashion, film, and TV of the time.
Her grandparents gave her some of the furniture which was now part of the house. Hannah said that in spite of owning a TV; she planned to continue to strip back the home instead of turning to modern technology. She also said that she has always been intrigued by vintage things and got many remarks that she was a young person who behaved like an older person with more experience.
When she and her mother shifted into the house, it was completely different from what it was now and they wanted to uncover its potential. It was her mother’s first purchase because she has always rented homes, so she wanted to make it extra special.
The theme really started to take off when they did the kitchen in a 1940s style and they liked it so much that she decided to make their entire house dedicated to that theme.
The kitchen’s finishing touch was the beautiful 1940s gas cooker. It worked as an absolute dream and has motivated them to live a modest life. The house was kind of like a tribute to her grandpa, who was born in 1936. He was an important part of her life and really got her interested in the 40s era as a kid. She was in love with his droplets of wisdom.
She even told that his grandpa’s taste in vintage and eccentric fashion has inspired her to dress up peculiarly. She felt that her house was an adoption center for vintage things but still undoubtedly loved it. She was also aware of the fact that not everyone would be mesmerized by her choice of the house because it was a massive niche.
After the kitchen was rebuilt, they went a little out of the board and collected different items such as a 40-year-old tin opener, vintage wallpaper, and old paintings. The gas cooker in the house was very useful when the electricity goes out on their street as it was possible for them to still cook dinner.
When you visit someone’s house, you do not expect each and every room to have a vintage touch. Her family thinks the house was very innovative and was like a time capsule. Everyone loved coming over and kicking it a little old school for a bit.
Hannah further told that when they bought the house from an old family friend, everywhere was rather beige and needed an overhaul having lost its charm. The renovation work exposed the original floorboards and staircase, which ironically brought it back to life a bit.
