Despite facing direct fire Mali was sent on multiple occasions to search for explosives displaying exceptional skill in detecting hidden dangers and even identifying the presence of enemy combatants.

Mali is not just any dog; he's a brave warrior who was part of a super challenging mission that lasted seven-and-a-half hours. Can you imagine? During this mission Mali was hurt by three grenade blasts. These blasts caused injuries to his chest legs ears and even his teeth. Ouch! But guess what? Mali didn't give up. Despite being in pain and facing such scary situations he kept going. 

He showed incredible bravery and dedication to the mission and the soldiers he was working with. Mali's story is not just about a dog doing his job; it's about courage loyalty and the amazing bond between soldiers and their four-legged companions. Mali is a true hero showing us all what it means to be resilient and committed no matter how tough things get.

Although we don't know his name because it's a secret for safety reasons he played a huge part in the mission and was also recognized for his courage. Together Mali and his handler were an unstoppable team.

After all the daring things Mali did he did get hurt but he's a tough one! He received treatment for his injuries and made an amazing recovery. It's like he's got superpowers! Now Mali is back home from Afghanistan but he's not just sitting around. Even though he's retired from being on the front lines he's still working hard.

Mali is now at the Royal Army Veterinary Corps Defense Animal Centre in Leicestershire helping train new dog handlers. It's like he's passing on his superhero skills to others.

Corporal Daniel Hatley who is currently Mali's handler and had the privilege of training him as a playful puppy before their deployment to Afghanistan feels an overwhelming sense of pride in Mali's amazing achievements. He deeply values Mali's significant contribution stating "Mali's actions in the most critical moments allowed my comrades to achieve victory in intense combat situations."

Since it started lots of animals have been honored with this medal. 

We're talking about 31 dogs 32 pigeons that delivered important messages during World War II four horses and even one cat! Each of these animals showed incredible bravery just like human heroes do.
