As a result, the couple started the makeover in the summer of 2019 and created their own place of calm amid chaos in their back garden at their home in Ackworth, West Yorkshire. Chris looked back on their house which they purchased in 2018 when the garden included nothing more than dry ground.

He told on social media that when they first shifted into their house the garden was just made up of dry and useless lawn that hadn’t been watered for a week. He further said that he wasn’t much into gardening until he started the project of his garden. He got interested in it because it was his first house, which he and his wife lived in that had a good garden place.

After spending some time thinking about how they would like to design the garden, a tropical paradise theme seemed perfect because they had their best time during their holiday at destinations such as Thailand and Sri Lanka. He and his wife had spent their honeymoon in Sri Lanka in 2018.

They took a lot of inspiration from a place called Jim Thompson house in Bangkok. It was very soothing and idyllic. They wanted to have the same atmosphere in their garden at home so that whenever they spent time there, it should feel like they were on a holiday.

Nevertheless, redecorating their British’s home garden into an Asian paradise was not something easy to achieve. The newlyweds had to do a lot of research on tropical plants to take proper care of them. They thought it would be a waste of money to buy topical plants if they didn’t know how to grow them correctly. Chris added that he had learned on the job, spent a lot of time watching videos on YouTube, and also watched gardening programs on television.

Now, nearly experts, the couple were the proud owners of up to 300 variations of plants which Chris has estimated to be worth around £4,000. The lovebirds had to buy them from specific growers and sometimes even went to rare plants fair to try and get as many uncommon plants as possible.

He admitted that he liked when people looked at their plants and were confused about what they were. He continued saying that those tropical plants tend to grow quite fast and it was a difficult task to know where to place the plants in the garden, and which place was the best to plant them for sunlight. They were a lot easier to look after in summer, he had to just water them in the mornings and evening.

Chris also disclosed that his garden looked the best during the summer. In winter they have to scoop out some plants and put them into the greenhouse with heaters to keep them alive. At last, he concluded by saying that this was pretty much the reason why the research was important to keep the tropical plants in the best conditions over the winter periods.

With the entire project costing around $1,500, Chris and Anneka received the help of some family members, to aid keep the price of the renovation down.
