In a TikTok viral video, he was seen reaching over the reception desk and picking up the phone, taking the call seriously, and attempting to assist the client on the other end of the line. The person on the other side of the line claimed that he was waiting for the past 15 minutes to return a car. Deric was humble enough to step up after witnessing no response from company staff and answered the call.

Deric, who is from the United States, then goes on to ask an employee on the other side of the room if they had any minivans for hire that day, according to the demand of the client. The employee was heard off-screen responding that minivans were in low supply. Deric delivered the word to the customer on the phone, who then inquired about renting SUVs or other mid-size vehicles. Deric inquired about the stock once more, and the staff went on to verify it for the customer.

Deric mentioned to the guy on the phone that he doesn’t work for the company while the employee was checking for mid-sized vehicles. He stated how hilarious it was that he does not even work here but answered the call as it was ringing for 10 minutes. According to Deric, there was no one to attend the call except a guy who was behind the desk. So, Deric decided to pick up the call and put that man into work who cross-checked the availability for the customer on phone.

A senior employee entered the scene while Deric was on the call and asked him who he was and why he was on the company’s phone. To this Deric replied that he was a customer who visited to return a car. At this point, the video ended abruptly, leaving TikTok’s 20 million users eager to find out what occurred next. Deric prefaced with a follow-up that the supervisor was not pleased. When the big boss walked in, he was furious, Deric explained. Deric also mentioned that he had the tape and will broadcast the rest of it. When he told the supervisor that he was a customer, superior employee asked, “And you answered my phone?”

Deric replied calmly that he was just trying to help. However, he finished the call as he believed in strong customer service. He also resolved every query of the customer. On the other hand, he was worried about the fees that he was going to be charged due to hail damage to the rental car. He realized that it was a big mistake to answer the phone. Probably, he was going to be fined $2000.
