A boy named Mike McGee rose to fame with his picture doing rounds in the social media world. The picture goes back to 12.04 pm on 24 October 2013. Soon, he became the face behind the ‘boy holding in a fart in class’ meme. Not just that, he also witnessed a surge in the number of his Twitter followers.

The power of the internet and social media is enough to make one a star overnight. People go around clicking weird and evoking pictures to serve on that part. As a result, many people advertently or inadvertently end up becoming an internet sensation. Thanks to the meme trend, this narrative is picking steam. A boy named Mike McGee also featured in that domain. He became the face of the ‘boy holding in a fart in class’ meme.

It was at 12.04 pm on 24 October 2013 when Mike McGee was holding his breath and flexing his neck. His hilarious face caught the attention of Matthew. He went ahead to click him in that state. It looked like he was holding in his fart in class. To worsen his situation, a girl was sitting next to him. Figuring out the humorous angle in the picture, Matthew went ahead to share the picture in the social media world.

Soon, another user picked up the hilarious picture. They went ahead to enhance its humor notes and share them on their Reddit account. Going that way, it soon became the celebrated ‘boy holding in a fart in class’ meme. Not just that, it also went a long way in surprising the boy. He could not believe the sudden fame of his picture and the humor shades it was carrying around the social media world. 

It took around two months for the photo (after its capture) to go viral in the social media world. Shedding light on his realization, he shared, “We’re on Christmas break in December, and I went to sleep one night. I wake up and my phone is really scorching hot. I look on my phone and it has the 20+ notification on your Twitter icon. I saw that a guy on Reddit had taken Matthew’s [the guy who captured the photo] tweet and pick stitched it to their own, and it was ‘when you’re holding in a fart next to your crush’. And it just blew up.”

Well, that was not all. He also witnessed a sudden rise in the number of his followers on Twitter. Taking on that part, he shared, “I had all these people tagging me in the photo like, ‘hey, is this you?’. Overnight I went from 700 Twitter followers to 3000 or something like that.” Therefore, he evolved into a meme sensation in the social media world.

In 2018, taking on the meme, he had said, “I was not flatulent, by any means! So he wanted to make a funny twitter caption and told me to make the face. He posted it, and like, two or three months after he posted it, it took off!”

Not just that, he also received treat offers. Adding to that, he said, “But the best was when I received free Taco Bell for doing the face. I love Taco Bell!” Taking on his parents’ reaction, he said, “My parents don’t really understand how big and widespread it is so they overlook the whole thing. My friends find it hilarious though!”

To one’s delight, he is still good friends with the girl (Amber Potter) in the picture.
