Parents Raised Their Daughter Believing She Is A Wizard And Might Go To Hogwarts
After reading the series of Harry Potter, parents had a crazy idea to make their daughter believe that she is a witch from a Wizard family. They also made her believe that if she keeps getting good grades, she might be able to go to Hogwarts. The whole thing sparked a fierce debate online.
The parents shared the whole thing on a Twitter post. According to the post, the parents read their daughter the first novel when she was five. They have told her that the wizarding world is real and she believes that to date.
The post further reads “She is almost eight and as her questions have gotten deeper, we’ve kept building the illusion with more details about our family genealogy and its connection to book characters, stories about times we used magic (and the life and moral lessons we learned about it).”
They further shared that “Before other parents judge or lecture; we know it’s gaslighting and eventually she’ll be disappointed and have trust issues with us when she learns the truth. We justify it that we are adding magic to her childhood, and give her motivation to reach her full (magical) potential (since she needs to study hard to be accepted to Hogwarts).”
The parents did that after consulting their daughter’s teacher who thinks the idea is creative than damaging. It is keeping her on track and helping her get good grades which is more important and not all damaging in any way. They think that the religious stories are also not all true but children are made to believe that they are.
Thus, this is also no different than it. Also, in the future, it will help her critically analyze whatever is said to her. The post had more than 43,000 likes and comments were adding up like crazy as the post started a fierce debate online on parenting.
One replied: “What’s the difference between this and telling your kids Santa is real or that little elf actually does move on it’s own every night? I mean really what is the difference?! Tradition?”
Another commented: “I see literally no difference between this, and raising a child in religion.” Another added “I was raised Christian but my parents didn’t tell me that I was a descendant of Jesus Christ.”
While others believe that they are abusing their child’s mental sanity by cooking up her fantasy stories and once she will learn the truth she will hate them. One commented: “Instead of just teaching your daughter to love books you do…this?” Other added: “Best case scenario this kid is walking out of their lives and never speaking to them again.” Yes, parents tend to cook up stories to make sure that their kids behave in a certain way. But one should know when to stop.
