Out Of Work Bartenders Are Now Serving Cocktails In Parks
Pandemic has made boozers toil hard to calm down their night out plans as the bars around the world have shutdown their sparkling business to walk in line with the restrictions. The closed shutters have rendered bartenders in troubled waters. They are struggling hard to feed themselves from hand to mouth. Throwing up a way to sustain a living, a bartender has taken to the lush green park in New York.
The visitors at Prospect Park are witnessing the fountain of cocktail bursting out of the tank of an anonymous man. The soul, fully packed in protective gear, strolls through the lush green surroundings to eye the boozers craving for the cocktail delight. Capturing his potential customers, he walks ahead with his cooler and plastic bottles.
The 32-year-old man draws down the bewitching menu before the customer, selling cocktails for $15 ($10 for peach and mango sangria) in 12-ounce plastic bottles. Adding to the delight of the customers, he presents the bottle with a logo of an anonymous man with a baseball cap and glasses that complements his look.
The bartender manages to rack up between $500 and $600 daily. The star drinks include Kachumber Basil, mixing citrus and pureed cucumber with honey gin and vodka infused with basil. The man has paid a tribute to his chef friend Floyd Cardoz, who lost his life to COVID-19 back in March with the drink on the menu.
He tries to escape the suspicious eyes with his cooler as he does not possess a license for selling alcohol in the park. He has drawn the inspirational bits by watching his co-workers sell bread.
Sharing her encounter with the bartender at the park, Meg Moorhouse shared, “It was full of what looked like nutcrackers. But these were margaritas”. Adding to that, she said, “It was perfect timing”.
Another of his customer said, “It was a great, unexpected bonus to the day”.
But the cocktail seller is seeing his might draining out. He is looking for the sun to shine over the bar job prospects. Taking on his struggle, he shared, “It’s very hard work. spend the whole week preparing the alcohol, sourcing it, getting alcohol I like, getting ingredients, doing infusions. And then physically going to the park with the ice and the cocktails”.
Well, he is not alone experimenting with the idea. A 31-year-old man named Shane Smith has started a service- Boomerang. One can check out the platform for 16 ounces ($20) to half-gallon ($80) drinks. There is also a four-booze drink called FOH Nutcracker. The customers can look up for their favourite shots and shoot DMs regarding orders. The associate restaurants with license grab the demands and serve the customers.
Not just that, Smith adds to his income by delivering Zoom cocktail lecturers. Taking on his business, Smith shared, “It was just for s–ts and giggles, but also an homage to the streets”.
Adding to that, he shared, “We might try to do cocktail kits. We want to keep it going in some way as long as we can”.
Hopefully, the clouds of agonies would waive soon.
